Hello & welcome

Iā€™d like to share with you the story behind MotherHealth. Growing up in Ecuador, I witnessed a form of motherhood deeply rooted in community, where families were intertwined, and Sundays were sacred. This was a stark contrast to the more isolated and independent life I later embraced in London. When I entered motherhood, I knew that without extended family support, raising a child would be more challenging. What surprised me, however, was the scarcity of information and open discussions about the postpartum journey. This lack of shared experiences turned out to be the real hurdle in navigating the profound changes that follow childbirth.

As I sought advice and information, I discovered that many of the health concerns I faced were not unique to my experience. It seemed like numerous mothers were quietly wrestling with these challenges on their own. There was a collective sense of uncertainty in our pursuit of "feeling like ourselves again," compounded by societal pressures to quickly "bounce back."

Entering matrescence, I was struck by the notion of aiming to return to our pre-birth state. The magnitude of this transformative journey and the need to approach it with mindful intention, recognising that each of us has our own unique rhythm for recovery and rediscovery, became strikingly clear from the outset. I found some relief through books that acknowledged the postpartum period as an empowering transition, and I remember sitting on the sofa breastfeeding for hours while feeling supported by the words of The Matrescence Podcast. It was during this time that I felt I was just beginning to grasp the true essence of feminism. The lack of support for new mothers in society weighed heavily on me, as I recognised that it's through this support that we can foster healthy families and societies.

In the depths of my postpartum experience, the concept of MotherHealth began to take shape. I envisioned a space where mothers could reclaim their postpartum journey. Most moms face new health challenges, often without enough clear information or research to understand what's happening with their bodies. Hormonal changes can lead to various shifts in health. We're the experts on ourselves, knowing what changes we want to see and can put into practice to feel better. The key is having the right support to make it happen. This support provides the guidance and resources to navigate our unique postpartum journeys with confidence.

In sharing this, I am a testament to the transformative power of embracing the complexities of motherhood. Through MotherHealth, I aim to inspire and support mothers in their unique journeys, reminding them that their strength, resilience, and vulnerability are the foundations of a healthier world. Every woman deserves a chance at rebirth through childbirth, a catalyst for renewed self-discovery. By honouring this process, we ignite a positive ripple effect that extends far beyond the individual, shaping a world that cherishes the sacred journey of motherhood.
