HOW TO KNOW WHEN IT’S THE RIGHT TIME TO WORK WITH A COACH

Are you a mum who’s experiencing changes in the body since childbirth and wondering if waiting it out will sort it out? Do you feel unsure about how to rebuild your foundations in a sustainable way? Do you feel unease that if you continue to feel this way it might lead to unwanted interventions? In this journal we’ll be exploring the key factors to recognise when it’s the right time to consider health coaching.

A health coach can help in a wide variety of ways, for a whole range of concerns. We don’t address one aspect of health only, because everything we experience is interconnected. When we look at a whole-health approach in coaching, we understand that each individual is unique, and we take a holistic approach, considering various lifestyle factors.

As a health coach and yoga therapist specialising in supporting mothers, I know that seeking guidance and support at the right time can transform motherhood. After childbirth, women are postpartum for about 5 years. For most of us it feels longer than we want it to be, but, during this time, we can heal lifelong illness and restore our health, or we can become vulnerable to disease that take a lifetime to attend to. While every body is different, there are foundational needs that we must attend to while experiencing this transitional time in life.

Recognising the Signs:

  • Persistent Struggle: While motherhood can feel much harder than anticipated, if you’re feeling overwhelmed and exhausted every day, then perhaps your current coping strategies are not sustainable and could lead to burnout.

  • Unfulfilled Expectations: Nothing can truly prepare us for motherhood, and having internal and external expectations can leave us disappointed and disillusioned. If you’re feeling like you want to change your reality on a daily basis, it might be the right time to explore new strategies and perspectives.

  • Concerns about Mental Wellbeing: Mothers need other wise women for guidance. Sadly, in today’s individualistic society, most of us are deprived of community and support. If you’re wondering whether you need professional support, or medical interventions, it’s an indicator that your emotional wellbeing requires attention and support.

Proactive Self-Care:

  • Investing in Yourself: We don’t think twice about prioritising the wellbeing of our children, but we forget our family benefit most from investing in our own health and happiness.

  • Creating Sustainable Foundations: We can only work towards long-term wellbeing when we address challenges early on. Taking steps now lays the foundations of whole-health for the rest of motherhood.

  • Embracing the Present: The only way to truly savour motherhood is in the present moment. Addressing concerns and seeking support now can be transformative for navigating the inevitable ups and downs of motherhood with softness and trust.

The Power of Timely Support:

  • Change Begins Now: A single step can take you towards the life you desire. Transformation doesn’t happen overnight, but it begins with a small action today.

  • Preventing Escalation: Focusing on long-term whole-health is about being preventative. Seeking support now can prevent challenges from escalating into larger issues and avoid more intensive interventions.

  • Creating Lasting Change: Consistent support and growth is the way to sustainable wellbeing and the life-long journey of motherhood.

Recognising when it's the right time to work with a health coach requires self-awareness and acceptance. As a mother, prioritising your wellbeing is essential for your own happiness and is the foundation for creating a nurturing and fulfilling environment for your family. We were never meant to do this alone, and I’m here to support you in this journey together.
